From the 1972 Referendum on entry to the Common Market an ad from the Galway Committe of the Common Market Defence Campaign.
“SAY NO – Reject Irish Entry to the Common Market Alternatives Do Exist!”
Amongst the reasons for rejection are ‘uncontrolled sale of lands to Foreign Nationals’ and ‘Destruction of the Gaeltacht’.

Many thanks to the avid readers who pointed out the Thomas McEllistrim leaflet sans FF logo posted here earlier this week had made its way into The Irish Mail on Sunday on January 9 2011.
They got the bones of a full page article from the leaflet but failed to mention the leaflets source. It would be nice if they did.

I stumbled upon this on Youtube. Its from the Labour LGBT group putting forward their argument that the Lisbon Treaty “is good for gays”.
From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet from Progressive Democrats candidate in Rathmines Tony Williams asking
“Who Can You Trust? -6 Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before June 11th”
The PDs were the answers to all six questions. Despite polling a decent enough 1,020 votes Williams failed to win a seat.

From January 2011 a leaflet for Labour Party TD for Cork South Central Ciaran Lynch with the headline “Keeping Warm this Winter” . The leaflet has some details of the “Winter Fuel Scheme” with details of Lynchs constituency clinics.
Councillor Lorraine Kingston is on the Leaflet in he Contact information section rather than his running mate Paula Desmond.
Whilst it doesn’t ask for a vote it certainly reminds voters that their TD is out and about.
Many thanks to the sender, who must have been tempted to keep himself warm by tossing the leaflet in the fire!

From the forthcoming election a leaflet for Independent Reform candidate David McCarthy running in Cork South-Central.
McCarthy was
“campaign manager for Kathy Sinnot’s 2002 General Election bid as well as stints as regional organiser for Fine Gael in Dublin and Munster. More recently .. was Séan Kelly’s campaign
manager in his successful European campaign and have most recently worked as regional director with Senator David Norris’s Presidential campaign.”
Amongst his polices are reduction in the number of TDs and “Cut numbers in the public service by 30,000”

Another new Party this time The Irish Reform Party who want
Root and Branch reform of government. End of politics as we know them.
I gather they hope to be registered in time for the General Election.
I’ve the first two pages of their Manifesto posted.
Their full Manifesto is available to download HERE

From the 1997 General Election a leaflet for Bertie Ahern running in Dublin Central. Bertie spells out details of the Fianna Fail manifesto as well as asking for a vote for his running mate Marian McGennis.
Ahern topped the poll with 12,175 votes (34% of the vote) and was easily elected. McGennis was elected also for her only Dail terrm.
From the 2004 Local Election a letter from Independent candidate Derek Keating running in Lucan. On the reverse are some images of Newspaper clippings about rezoning in the area.
Keating polled 3,680 votes topping the poll and being elected on the first count. He has since joined Fine Gael and again topped the poll in the 2009 local Elections with 4,146 votes.
He is standing in Dublin Mid West in the 2011 Election for Fine Gael.

Found this recently, an ad from the 1987 General Election Campaign with three people very much associated with Galway at the time, the late Mick Lally, the late Noel Browne and singer Mary Coughlan asking for a vote for Michael D.
“Why We Think You Should Vote For Michael D.”
From late 2010 a Green Party leaflet on Animal Welfare. Amongst the items covered are Stag hunting and Puppy Farms.
From the February 1982 General Election an ad for Fianna Fail with the headline “Fianna Fail Cares for Rural Ireland” .
The Ad outlines Fianna Fails ‘Ten Point Programme’.
Taken from the Galway Advertiser archive.

Just got this (many thanks to the sender) .. the cover of a leaflet for Fianna Fail Kerry North TD Thomas McEllistrim. Its the first bit of FF 2011 material I’ve seen.
Note the lack of Fianna Fail logo on the front.
Thomas McEllistrim is the Fianna Fail candidate for Kerry North West Limerick in the forthcoming Election.
I stumbled across this recently, ‘Dole Éireann’ a documentary on Luke ‘Ming’ Flanaghan’s 1997 Election Campaign in Galway West. Its quite entertaining.
Flanaghan, the current Mayor of Roscommon, is tipped by many to make the leap into the Dail in 2011

An intriguing Fianna Fail ad from the February 1982 General Election with the message…
“The Coalition has taken away the right of YOUR child to enter this school at 4 years of age. Fianna Fail will Put This Right”
I’m not sure as to the background and what the coalition proposals about School going age were.
The ad asks for a vote for the Fianna Fail candidates in Galway West, Frank Fahey, Maire Geoghegan Quinn, Bobby Molloy, Mark Killilea and Nicholas O’Connor.
Taken from the wonderful Galway Advertiser site.

From the second Lisbon Treaty Campaign a flyer from Green Party TD Eamon Ryan to constituents with “Reasons to Vote Yes to Lisbon”.
The flyer also contains details of two public meetings to be addressed by Ryan himself.
