From the 2011 General Election in Mayo a Castlebar based Leaflet from Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny. Has details of the five point plan as well as pen pics of the Four Fine Gael candidates Enda Kenny, Michelle Mulherin, John O’Mahony and Michael Ring.
All four Fine Gael candidates were elected.

From the 1997 General Election campaign a leaflet from Fianna Fail with the headline “Who’ll keep the pushers from our children?”.
Open it up and there is a doe eyed Bertie and promises of all sorts to tackle Drug Abuse and the problems associated with it. Veronica Guerin had been murdered the year before so Fianna Fails Zero Tolerance policies in this area appealed to the electorate.

From the 1999 Local Elections a flyer for Fine Gael candidate Tadgh O’Sullivan running for Killarney UDC. O’Sullivan polled 192 votes and failed to win a seat.
The slogan “A New Patriotism Locally” wasn’t very good.

1987 letter from Albert Reynolds to Constituents asking for support. March 6, 2011


From the 1987 General Election campaign a letter from Albert Reynolds to voters in Longford Westmeath asking for support. I presume the letter was sent only in Longford as it has the plea that “..Longford needs its own Minister”.
In the event Reynolds topped the poll and was duly appointed Minister for Industry and Commerce.

From the 1992 General Election , The Spring Tide, “An Important Message from Dick Spring to Dublin Families”. The leaflet hit out at Fianna Fail lies.
It also shows how highly regarded by the electorate Dick Spring was at the time. By that it was a message from Dick Spring as opposed to a message from The Labour Party.
Interestingly enough he says that “Labour has NO plans to introduce a new property or house tax”

From the 2011 General Election campaign a flyer for John Foley who was running as an Independent in Laois Offaly . A former Fianna Fail councillor and General Election candidate, the Edenderry based Foley jumped ship to run as an Independent.

I was going through a bunch of material I received (many thanks) and this ad from the Fianna Fail paper The Nation jumped out at me.
Ad for “The Fianna Fail Insurance Package”. The ad also mentions  “Fianna Fail Home Insurance”.
There may well be other products along the same line, Fine Gael Insurance, Labour Insurance, Sinn Fein insurance etc

 

“Keep Sinn Fein Out!” -‘Vote Power No 1’ -Averil Power -Fianna Fail-Dublin North East


“Keep Sinn Fein Out!” reads the leaflet from Fianna Fails Averil Power running in Dublin North East in the 2011 General Election. She quotes The Evening Herald, The Irish Times and Newstalk to argue her case that she was the only candidate to stop Sinn Feins Larry O’Toole being elected. In the end neither Power or O’Toole were elected as Labour’s Sean Kenny took the third and final seat.

From the 2011 General Election a leaflet from Sinn Feins candidate Brian Stanley running in Laois Offaly. The Portlaoise based Stanley has been a councillor since 1999 and this was his third attempt at a Dail seat.

From the 1997 General Election a leaflet for Independent Anti Service Charges candidate Paddy Mulcahy running in Cork North Central. Mulcahy who was active in the anti Bin Tax campaign and spent time in jail for his actions polled 889 votes.

“EEC Means Jobs Out, Imports In” -Kevin Dunphy -Sinn Fein 1989 European Elections Leinster February 27, 2011


From the 1989 European Elections a leaflet from Kevin Dunphy one of the three Sinn Fein candidates running in the Leinster constituency. Of the three he polled the highest with 4,534 votes. Pearse McGeough polled 3001 and Terry Moore polled 2424 votes.
The leaflet was the first about the EEC and its effects. It compared the situation in 1973 with that of 1988 and the impact that membership of The EEC had on Ireland.
