A vote for Ctulhu with the text  “Irrelevant, Ctulhu shall rise from the sunken city of R’yLeh and Simply devour his opponents” from the Lisgoold/Leamlara Community Council Election 2012.
I reckon (after a bit of searching) that the voter was a fan of the writer H. P. Lovecraft
Many Thanks to the sender.

Ads for An Poblacht Chríostúil (Christian Republic) 1960 LE Waterford and 1965 GE Cork October 22, 2012

From the 1960 Local Elections an Ad for 3 Poblacht Chríostúil candidates Padraig Griffin, Liam Hearne and Liam Jackman who were running for seats on Waterford Corporation.
Griffin polled 102 votes, Hearne 162 votes and Jackman 64 votes with none of them being elected.
The second clipping is from the 1965 General Election campaign where Sylvester Cotter and Alex Miller were running in Cork Mid and Cork City. Cotter polled 498 votes whilst Miller polled 547 votes.
This piece explains the partys policies

The aims and ideals of this Irish Christian party, as published on its membership card are:

“1. To change the present political structure from contentious government to a form of Government based on Christian Principles and Social Justice,
“2. To foster a resurgence of true patriotism by stimulating interest in public and social administration through the study and application of Christian Social Principles.
“3. To prepare candidates for local and national office who will apply these principles for the common good.
“4. To oppose all subversive influences into our Christian and National Heritage.
“5. To work towards a planned economy aimed at the full development of the country’s resources with self-sufficiency and the repopulation of the country as primary considerations.”
According to their wikipedia entry ” Senator Eoghan Harris campaigned for the party and spoke at its rallies”

1988 Cork May Day Leaflet August 26, 2012

Many thanks to the sender who notes…

A leaflet advertising the Cork May Day rally 1988. It was produced by that year’s Cork May Day committee ….
The committee was set up under the auspices of Cork Council of Trade Unions. While the leaflet was funded by the ITGWU, the committee worked independently and organised one of the most successful May Day events in Cork up to that date.
Interestingly the issues covered in the leaflet are still with us today – unemployment, health cuts, the taxation system and the need to defend workers rights. The leaflet came less than a year after the first “partnership” deal so from a historical context it is quite interesting.

Leaflet from Domhnall Mac Carthaigh -Fianna Fail – Cobh Town Council -2009 Local Elections August 25, 2012

Many thanks to the sender who notes…

This is from Fianna Fáil candidate for Cobh Town Council Domhnall Mac Carthaigh from the 2009 Local elections.
Mac Carthaigh came third of the 4 FF candidates and failed to be elected. He also ran in 2004 getting 140 votes. A former naval service officer, Mac Carthaigh is prominent in the Organisation of National Ex-Servicemen (ONE). He recently came last in an internal Fianna Fáil cumman selection convention to replace Michael Martin (Cobh, not the FF leader!) as member of Cobh Town Council following Martin’s resignation from the council to concentrate on his Titanic Trail and other tourist interests. The seat went instead to Jimmy Halligan who also unsuccessfully stood for Cobh TC on several occasions and runs a local taxi service.
