Thought this was apt to post considering the current discussions about the future of the Seanad. From 2003 a Submission by The Workers Party on Seanad Reform to Seanad Sub Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

Michael Enright , Catherine Murphy -The Workers Party -1989 European Elections Leinster January 5, 2011

From the 1989 European Elections a leaflet from the Workers Party candidates Wexford Councillor Michael Enright and Kildare based Town Councillor Catherine Murphy.
In the “Action Plan For Leinster” Forestry, Peatlands , ‘Reorganisation of agricultural production’ and the massive mineral resources at Navan are amongst the items mentioned.
The inside of the leaflet is almost totally EC focused.
There were high hopes that both Michael Enright and Catherine Murphy could put down a marker for future Dail progress. A General election was held on the same day and it was hoped that their candidacy in the Euro Elections would give them a boost.
Although the Workers Party vote increased from 1984s Euro Election, both candidates lost their deposits with a combined 4.38% of the vote.
In the General election Enrights vote actually fell, whilst Murphys 1,520 vote was decent enough in the circumstances (An ‘Army Wives’ candidate, Carol Tiernan also stood in Kildare polling 2,690 votes, some of which would have gone to Murphy).

These few clippings are from the 1975 Galway West By Election caused by the death of Fianna Fail TD John Geoghegan and won by his daughter Maire Geoghegan Quinn.
They give an illustration of OSF policy and thinking at the time . Considering it was 1975 the quote of “Our minerals, oil and gas which successive governments have sold out must be taken back by the Irish people” still holds fairly true.
Renee Prendergast polled 656 votes.
Clippings from The Galway Advertiser.

Tom Crilly -Workers Party -1985 LE Pembroke July 14, 2010

From the 1985 Local Elections a leaflet for Workers Party candidate Tom Crilly running in the Pembroke Ward.
Of the times, he writes
One of the reasons for the closure of many of our local industries has been Dublin Corporation decisions to rezone land from industrial use to office block accommodation. These decisions have benefited speculators but have put thousands of workers on the dole. Tom will strongly oppose the further destruction of our industries, as happened at the International Meat Company, Bolands Bakery and Irish Glass Bottle Company, and he will oppose the planned closure of Dublin Port.

then
Tom will campaign for the introduction of lead free petrol
