These few clippings are from the 1975 Galway West By Election caused by the death of Fianna Fail TD John Geoghegan and won by his daughter Maire Geoghegan Quinn.
They give an illustration of OSF policy and thinking at the time . Considering it was 1975 the quote of “Our minerals, oil and gas which successive governments have sold out must be taken back by the Irish people” still holds fairly true.

Was sent this flyer from the 1979 Local Elections campaign in Galway. Jimmy Brick, Tony Coffey and Billy Dillon of Sinn Fein The Workers Party.
Jimmy Brick was a long time stalwart of the Workers Party who stood in five General Elections in Galway West and also in two European Elections. Brick left in 1990 in part over the fuss created by Eamon Smullens ‘Necessity of Social Democracy’ pamphlet. Others to leave at the time included Eoghan Harris and John Cadden.
Tony Coffey stood in the 1977 General Election and later in the 1979 European Elections. In 1981 he stood as an Independent.A former Bus driver ,he also had a spell as leader of the Galway Council of Trade Unions.
Elect a Worker -Its All a Question of class.
None of the three were elected.
Billy Dillon polled 247 votes ,Jimmy Brick polled 151 votes ,Tony Coffey polled 306 votes for the City Council and 872 votes in the County Council elections.

From the 2004 Local elections a ‘Campaign News’ Leaflet from The Workers Party Candidate Brendan Phelan.
Phelan polled 341 votes.
Amongst the items covered in the leaflet are Bin Tax, Womens Rights, House prices, Health cuts, Workers Rights, The War in Iraq and the LUAS.
The candidates profile mentions Brendan Phelans involvement in Irish Folk Music. He has written many well known folk songs and possibly his best known composition ‘Dublin In My Tears’ has been covered by artists far and wide.

From the 1991 Local Elections a Leaflet from Workers Party Candidates Tom Crilly and Angie Murphy running in the Pembroke Ward. Crilly polled 486 votes and Murphy polled 321 votes, neither were elected.
The leaflet is interesting in that it is very Green and in some respects ahead of the Greens at the time. For instance regarding water
“... We have campaigned for improved water catchment process, an integrated reservoir system, upgrading of mains…”
Amongst other items mentioned are Smokeless coal, Tenants rights and the lack of recycling facilities.
We also learn that ‘the average house price in Dublin is a staggering £63,000‘.
Marian White Leaflet -Workers Party -1991 Local Elections Blackrock August 19, 2010
From the 1991 Local Elections, a leaflet (the general one used by most WP candidates in that election) for Workers Party candidate Marian White running in Blackrock.
She narrowly missed out on a seat.
She stood subsequently for Democratic Left in the 1992 General Election in Dublin South and for Labour in the 1999 Local Elections in Blackrock but without gaining a seat.

From the 1989 General Election a leaflet for then Workers Party Councillor Eamon Gilmore. There is also a request to vote for Prionsias De Rossa in the European Elections that were held on the same day.
Gilmore was elected as The Workers Party won 7 seats (a gain of 3). De Rossa was elected also.
