1982 Seanad Administrative Panel Leaflet from Brendan McGahon -Fine Gael November 13, 2012


From the 1982 Seanad Election, held after the February 1982 General Election, a leaflet for Fine Gael candidate Brendan McGahon, who was running for a seat on the Administrative Panel. McGahon narrowly missed out on a seat but did win a seat a few months later in the November 1982 General Election. The sometimes outspoken TD held his Louth seat until his retirement in 2002. He is one of the few TDs that played League of Ireland football, as he did with Dundalk.

From the 1945 Local Elections a Card from Owen McGahon (OB McGahon) who was running for Fine Gael in the Dundalk No. 1 ward.
His father, T.F. McGahon, was one of the inaugural members of Dundalk Urban District Council when it was created along with other Irish local authorities by the British Government in 1898. *source
His son was former Fine Gael TD Brendan McGahon.

From the 1981 General Election in Cavan Monaghan, a sad notice to electorate concerning the passing of Fine Gael candidate Mona Hobans mother. The notice mentions that the candidate “will not be in a position to visit as many areas as possible”.
Hoban, a County Cavan based Councillor polled 1,741 votes.

Hadn’t noticed this (thanks to the gent who pointed it out) when posting Cait Keanes leaflet yesterday. She refers to her constituency colleague and current Junior Minister Brian Hayes as “”Senator Brian Hayes”. I’m sure it was unintentional.

In it he is pictured in front of local landmark Rathfarnham Castle and there are also pics of him in the Pearse Museum in St Endas Park.

Leaflet for John Cushnahan-Fine Gael -1989 European Elections -Munster July 26, 2012


From the 1989 European Elections a leaflet from former leader of The Alliance Party and prominent Civil Rights movement figure John Cushnahan running for Fine Gael in Munster. Cushnahan polled 43,326 votes and was elected. He was returned again in 1994 and 1999.
