The Summer 2013 newsletter from Independent TD for Donegal South West Thomas Pringle. As at the next election Donegal will be a five seat constituency, Pringle introduces himself to voters from the other parts of Donegal.
There is a profile, his voting record, 10 things he’s done in the Dail as well as local issues and pictures too.
From the 1987 General Election a leaflet from Independent candidate Sean Deegan who was running in Tipperary North. Deegan polled 322 votes and failed to win a seat.

From the 1985 Local Elections a charming flyer from Independent candidate Tom Farrell (The Bullockstown Boy) ‘King of the Shannon’ running in Ballymahon for a seat on Longford County Council. He polled 234 votes and failed to win a seat. I gather that he was an Fianna Fail man who ran as an Independent and was known locally as Tom Andy Farrell.

A lovely newspaper clip I was sent of Jackie Healy Rae ‘surfing the super info highway’ during the 1997 General Election campaign in Kerry South. Healy Rae was elected, topping the poll with 7,220 votes.

From the front page of The Irish Statesman an ad for Joseph Xavier Murphy and Independent who was running in Dublin County in the September 1927 General Election. Murphy was elected having polled 4207 votes. Murphy lost his seat in the 1932 General Election.

From the 1954 General Election in Sligo/Leitrim a flyer for Joseph Pilkington an Independent Republican Labour Candidate, Workers Unemployed, Small Farmer and Old IRA candidate. He polled 2,710 votes and failed to win a seat.
As far as I know Pilkington was a Sligo Town based Councillor. He was elected to Sligo County Council and Sligo Corporation in 1950 as a Labour candidate and died in 1955. I don’t know why he didn’t stand for Labour here in 1954.

From the 1979 European Elections a leaflet from Independent candidate T J Maher who was running in Munster. A former president of the IFA, by 1979 he was Presient of the Irish Co-Operative Organisation Society. He topped the poll in these 1979 elections being elected on the first count. He was returned again in 1984 and 1989.

From the 1999 Local Elections a leaflet from Independent candidate Maud Coleman who was running in Dundalk Ward 3. Coleman polled 164 votes and missed out on a seat.

From the 1997 General Election a leaflet from Independent candidate Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan. In this his first General Election he polled 548 votes.

From the 1945 Presidential Election an ad for Independent candidate Patrick McCartan “McCartan for President”. He polled 212,834 votes (19.59%) in a contest won by Sean T O’Kelly.
McCartan a former TD and later founder member of of Clann na Poblachta , he also had a spell in the Seanad.

From the 1992 General Election a leaflet for Independent Pro-Life candidate Richard Greene who was running in Dublin South. Greene who had been elected to the County Council for the Green Party, left because of their policy on Abortion. Among other groups, he has since been involved in a party called Muintir na hEireann, The Christian Solidarity Party and Coir.
He polled 1,671 votes here and failed to win a seat.
