From the 2007 General Election a leaflet from Fine Gael candidate John Perry running in Sligo North Leitrim. On the front there is a heavily airbrushed picture of Enda Kenny along with pictures of running mates Imelda Henry and Michael Comiskey.
The Ballymote based Perry was the only one of three candidates to be elected.
From the 1999 Local Elections in Killarney a leaflet from Fine Gael candidate Sheila Casey. Also mentioned are her running mates Alan O’Sullivan and Tadhg O’Sullivan as well as John Cushnahan and Jim Corr who were running for Europe.
She was elected and in 2003 became the first woman to be Mayor of Killarney.

From the 1965 General Election campaign a flyer from Fine Gael with the message that “Fianna Fail are Rattled”. “Only This could explain their ill-informed attacks”..
Fianna Fail still won an overall majority, indeed gaining two seats on their 1961 total.
From the 1973 General Election an Ad from Fine Gael “In one year her grocery bill has risen 14%. But her housekeeping money hasn’t”.
From the November 1982 General Election a leaflet from Fine Gael candidates Alice Glenn, John Colgan and Michael Keating who were running in Dublin Central.
Glenn and Keating were elected. All three candidates ended up running as Independents or in Keatings case The Progressive Democrats. Colgan ran as an Independent in the 1991 local Elections whilst Alice Glenn ran as an Independent in the 1997 General Election.
Glenn was probably most famous for her ‘A Woman Voting for Divorce is like a Turkey voting for Christmas‘ leaflet. I also have her reasons for ‘leaving’ Fine Gael “Why Fine Gael divorced Alice Glenn”
From the 1986 Referendum on Divorce, Fine Gael Leader and then Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald calls “… on the women of Ireland to vote YES”.
The Referendum was defeated.
Another 2007 leaflet from Fine Gael candidate Darren Scully. With the slogan “Be On The Ball – Naas needs a TD Now!” we also have a picture of the “Naas Ball” .
“Straight Talking” a 2007 General Election Flyer from Naas based Fine Gael Councillor Darren Scully. Scully failed to win a seat polling 4,250 votes.
From the 1968 Referendum on the system of voting , Fine Gael urge voters to “Say NO while you still have a chance” .
There were two Referendums on that day both defeated.
The change in voting one was
To substitute for the present system of voting at Dáil elections the “straight vote” system in single-member constituencies;
To establish a Commission to determine constituencies, subject to the right of the Dáil to amend the constituencies as so determined; and
To provide that whenever the Dáil is dissolved the outgoing Ceann Comhairle may be returned, without a contest, as a second deputy for a constituency chosen by him which consists of, or includes a part of, the constituency he represented before the dissolution.
Whilst the Formation of Dail Constituencies Referendum….
The Third Amendment of the Constitution Bill, 1968, proposes that in forming Dáil constituencies, the population per deputy in any case may not be greater or less than the national average by more than one-sixth and that regard must be had to the extent and accessibility of constituencies, the need for having convenient areas of representation and the desirability of avoiding the over-lapping of county boundaries.
Both were rejected.

From the 1992 General Election a leaflet “Crime -Together We Will Crack It!” from Fine Gael candidate Pat Lee who was running in Dublin North Central. Initially elected for Dublin Central in 1989, boundary changes led to him standing in Dublin North Central in 1992 where he lost his seat.
From the 2011 General Election Campaign, a letter to voters from Fine Gael TD Leo Varadkar outlining his support for Metro North. “For the record, I strongly support Metro North” . He also goes on to tell voters that Labour are not too keen on the project.

This is great, the results of a questionnaire on teaching issues sent by the INTO to “Messrs deValera, Mulcahy, Norton, McBride, Blowick and Everett” . Its from the 1948 General Election and not all replied.
You can imagine many of the newspapers today having a field day with some of the questions.
From the 1981 General Election Fine Gael looking for the farming vote. “Fine Gael subsidies will help you increase production -bring you up to the Mark Clinton standard”.
Mark Clinton was the Fine Gael Minister that negotiated Irelands entry to the Common Agricultural Policy.
From the 2011 Dublin West By-Election a leaflet from Fine Gaels Eithne Loftus with the unusual slogan of “On Thursday Vote For The Only Government Candidate” . Unusual as Labour also were running a a candidate in the By-Election, indeed Labours Patrick Nulty won the By-Election.
