From the run up to the 2007 General Election a flyer from then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern ‘Not Just At Election Time’ . The flyer gives details of Advice centres, his availability and that even if hes not present that he will ‘Personally deal with the query later’. For groups or organisations there were invites to make ‘Special Arrangements’ to meet him in St Lukes.

From the 1992 General Election a letter to voters in Dublin Central an “Election Message from Mr. Bertie Ahern T.D., Minister for Finance”. He topped the poll with 11,374 votes but neither of his running mates Dermot Fitzpatrick or Olga Bennett were elected.

Leaflet from Alice Glenn ,John Colgan, Michael Keating- Fine Gael- November 1982 Dublin Central. December 19, 2011


From the November 1982 General Election a leaflet from Fine Gael candidates Alice Glenn, John Colgan and Michael Keating who were running in Dublin Central.
Glenn and Keating were elected. All three candidates ended up running as Independents or in Keatings case The Progressive Democrats. Colgan ran as an Independent in the 1991 local Elections whilst Alice Glenn ran as an Independent in the 1997 General Election.
Glenn was probably most famous for her ‘A Woman Voting for Divorce is like a Turkey voting for Christmas‘ leaflet. I also have her reasons for ‘leaving’ Fine Gael “Why Fine Gael divorced Alice Glenn

“Dublin’s Hardest Working Councillor – Christy Burke, Sinn Fein” -1992 General Election -Dublin Central November 17, 2011


From the 1992 General Election in Dublin Central, a leaflet “Dublin’s Hardest Working Councillor – Christy Burke, Sinn Fein”. Burke who had been elected to the council in 1985, polled 1,362 votes, a drop from his 1989 performance. This was possibly down to the redrawing of the constituency which is shown on the back of the leaflet. Burke left Sinn Fein a few days after being reelected to the City Council in 2009.

Leaflet from John Stafford -Fianna Fail -1989 General Election -Dublin Central


From the 1989 General Election a leaflet from John Stafford, who was running for Fianna Fail in Dublin Central. Stafford is one of the Stafford Funeral Directors family and the address given on the leafolet is that of the Funeral Directors. In this 1989 election he held his seat, which he initially won in 1987. On the mock ballot paper at the back of the leaflet you may notice that Geraldine Harney, RTE presenter and sister of Mary Harney, was running for the PDs.
In the leaflet we have a message from Charles Haughey as well as one from Stafford himself.

From the 2007 General Election a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Mary Lou McDonald who was running in Dublin Central. Elected an MEP for Dublin in 2004, she failed to win a seat here polling 3,182 votes. In 2011 she was elected in Dublin Central.
