From Fianna Fail Senator Maria Corrigan a 2008 letter to Residents of Dublin South with a headline that would have you believe the LUAS was being built to Rathfarnham. Needless to say it wasn’t quite as positive as the headline suggested.

“Local Review” Cllr John Lahart (Fianna Fail) -Summer 2001 October 12, 2010


This is most likely of interest to those familiar with the Knocklyon /Rathfarnham area. A 2001 newsletter from Fianna Fail councillor John Lahart.
The opening story concerns the destroying of some playing fields and open spaces in the area by Itinerants. It actually ended where the council had to pay quite a large sum of money to get some football pitches fit for playing again.
The Green Route, planning, Rathfarnham Castle and Rathfarnham Village are amongst the many issues covered.

Flyer for John Phelan -Fianna Fail -Rathfarnham 2009 Local Elections August 31, 2010


From the 2009 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidate John Phelan who was running in the Rathfarnham LEA.
John Phelan polled 597 votes and failed to win a seat.
His website johnphelan.eu has both recent local news and links to some youtube clips he made for his campaign.

Vincent Kenny -Fianna Fail -2004 Local Elections Terenure Rathfarnham June 23, 2010


From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Vincent Kenny running in Terenure Rathfarnham.
Kenny, who had stood as an Independent with emphasis on Environmental issues in 1999, had been co-opted to replace Ann Ormonde in 2003. He failed to win a seat in 2004. In the 2009 Local Elections he stood again as an Independent without success.

Stanley Laing, Michael McLoughlin, Brian Tector -Fine Gael- 2004 LE Rathfarnham Terenure May 30, 2010


From the 2004 local Elections in the Terenure Rathfarnham Locale election Area a Leaflet for Fine Gael candidates Stanley Laing, Michael McLoughlin and Brian Tector.
Despite all three polling well, it was only the long serving Stanley Laing that was elected.

Cait Keane – Progressive Democrats – 2004 Local Elections Terenure-Rathfarnham April 23, 2010


From the 2004 Local Elections Progressive Democrat Candidate Cait Keane running in the Terenure-Rathfarnham Ward.
Cait Keane was easily elected. Originally Elected to the Council in 1991, whe has held a seat since. She also stood in Dublin South Central on 3 occassions.
In 2009 she was elected when running for Fine Gael.

Mary Muldoon, Alan Shatter -Fine Gael -1991 Local Elections Rathfarnham April 10, 2010


Fine Gael candidates Alan Shatter and Mary Muldoon from the 1991 local Elections in the Rathfarnham LEA. Both Alan Shatter and Mary Muldoon were elected.
Traffic and Knocklyon School were amongst the issues mentioned. Anyone familiar with the area will remember the issues with Traffic especially later on when the M50 ended at Tallaght.

 

Tony McDermott -Green Party -2004 LE Terenure /Rathfarnham April 7, 2010


From the 2004 Local Elections Green Party Candidate Tony McDermott who was elected in the Terenure Rathfarnham ward.
Tony McDermott also ran in the 2007 General Election in Dublin South Central polling well but not enough to win a seat.
He failed to hold his Council seat in 2009.

Brian Tector -Fine Gael- 2004 LE Terenure Rathfarnham April 5, 2010

Despite polling a very healthy 1,603 votes, Brian Tector failed to win a seat.

A flyer from then Mayor of South County Dublin, Marie Ardagh running for Fianna Fail in Terenure-Rathfarnham ward in the 2004 local Elections.
Marie Ardagh was elected comfortably.

John Lahart -Fianna Fail -Rathfarnham 2004 Local Elections February 4, 2010


Fianna Fail Candidate John Lahart from the 2004 local Elections in Terenure / Rathfarnham. Lahart topped the poll and got in on the first count.
In 2009 he again got in on the first count.
He is seen as a possible candidate in Dublin South at the next election, especially should Tom Kitt elect not to stand again.
He also asks people to contact him (rather than the council) should all his posters not be taken down.

Eamonn O’Liatháin- Workers Party -Dublin South 1987 General Election January 20, 2010


Eamonn O’ Liatháin from the 1987 General Election in Dublin South. (O’ Liatháin at electionsireland.org).
He polled over 1000 votes. His membership of groups such as CND, The Irish Anti Apartheid movement and,support of ‘Nicaragua must survive’ tells much of the International politics of the time.
In the 1987 election The Workers Party doubled their Dail representation from 2 to 4.

Alex White from the 2004 Local elections where he was elected for the Terenure-Rathfarnham ward. He has since been elected to the Seanad and stood twice for Labour in Dublin South.

Stephen Rineys Rathfarnham Heritage Map-1991 LE December 23, 2009


This is part of a leaflet produced by Fianna Fail Councillor Stephen Riney for the 1991 local elections. Alas the names of the places were all that was on the leaflet/map. No 8 on the map Butterfield House was supposedly one of the houses Robert Emmett hid in. Rathfarnham Castle, The Bottle Tower, Hell Fire Club, Lamb Doyles and Loreto Abbey would be familiar name to those from outside the area.
I might return to this at a later date and add some more background to the places.
Anyway an unusual piece of election material. Riney wasn’t elected.

Stephen Riney, Damien Fee, Ann Ormonde – Rathfarnham 1991 Local Elections October 23, 2009


Stephen Riney ran Orchard Estate agents in Rathfarnham (its now the Remax office) and was also a keen local historian. ( Another leaflet produced by him was a heritage map of the area which I’ll post in due course). Theres still no sign of the Comminity Centre/ Swimmong pool proposed by hime either.
Ann Ormonde ran a number of times without success in General elections however has served a number of terms in the Seanad. Damien Fee is/was a school principal. Ann Ormonde was elected.
