A “Why Vote for Roderic O’Gorman” video from Green Party candidate in the Dublin West By-Election . It will be interesting to see if there is any bounce in the Green vote from the General Election. He polled 605 votes (1.42%) in the February election. (18 short of Fianna Fails David McGuinness)

From the 1985 Local elections, an unusual flyer from Fine Gaels Noel McDonagh who was running for a seat in Tramore. Unless you knew the candidate, it would be a difficult enough crossword.
Noel McDonagh polled 371 votes and failed to win a seat.

From our first Presidential Election in 1945 an ad for Fine Gael candidate General Sean MacEoin. MacEoin polled 335,539 votes in a contest won by Fianna Fails Sean T O’Kelly.
A veteran of the War of Independence, the Longford native was first elected to the Dail in 1929.

Flyer for H-Block “Mass National Lobby and March” 22nd November 1980 September 28, 2011


A leaflet from the National H-Block Committee advertising a  “Mass National Lobby and March” in Dublin on the 22nd November 1980.
The Hunger strike of 1980 was the precursor to the 1981 Hunger Strike where ten men died. It began in Long Kesh in October 1980 with Brendan Hughes, Tom McFeeley, Sean McKenna, Leo Green, Tommy McKearney , Raymond McCartney and John Nixon all going on hunger strike for the 5 demands listed below.
Having received assurances that the five demands would be met on a phased basis the hunger strike was stopped on the 18th of December 1980. The assurances were not followed up upon and on the first of March 1981 the ‘second’ Hunger Strike began.

Fianna Fail Advertising Hoarding at Ireland vs Hungary 1989 Lansdowne Road

Saw this and was amused at the Fianna Fail ad at the side of the pitch.  The game was held 11 days prior to the 1989 European and General Elections.
Haven’t seen much political sponsorship at sporting events , the last time was possibly Sinn Fein sponsoring a Bohs game in I think 2004 or 2007. Anyone any other examples?

From the 2004 Local ELections a leaflet for Socialist Workers Party candidate Brendan Donohoe who was running for a seat on Dublin City Council in the South West Inner City Ward. Donohoe polled 308 votes and failed to win a seat.

From 1944 “The Taoiseach’s Message” -Eamon De Valera -Fianna Fail September 25, 2011


From the 1944 General Election a message to the electorate from then Taoiseach and Fianna Fail Leader Eamon De Valera. In this 1944 Election Fianna Fail gained 9 seats and had an overall majority.
Interesting to see a lot of the message given over to the ills of coalition governments.
