From the 1992 General Election campaign , an ad from Fianna Fail attacking Labour and Fine Gael over their plans to increase Property Tax and other things too.
£1,200 as indicated in the cheque was a fairly hefty sum in 1992.

Leaflet from Finghín Kelly- Gauches Communes list in Saint Gilles- Brussels October 7, 2012


Something highly unusual here, a leaflet for an Irishman, Finghín Kelly, who is running in the Local Elections in Brussels.

“I am the 10th candidate on the Gauches Communes list in Saint Gilles. Saint Gilles is a commune in Brussels.

Gauches Communes is standing in 4 Communes in Brussels. It was initiated by 3 parties, Parti Socialiste de Lutte (sister party of the Irish SP), Parti Humaniste and Comité pour une Autre Politique. It also has many left independents and trade union activists. Also on the list in St Gilles is myself, member of the Irish Socialist Party and a member of the Greek party SYRIZA.”

Leaflets are produced also in Flemish.

The election will take place on 14 October 2012.

Easter Rising 1916 Commemorative Stamps, April 1966 October 4, 2012


A lovely bit of history that a kind reader sent on (many thanks). From April 1966 a set of Easter Rising 1916 Commemorative Stamps to mark the 50th anniversary of the rising.
There are stamps for P.H. Pearse, James Connolly, Thomas Clarke, Eamonn Ceannt, Sean Mac Diarmada, Joseph Plunkett and Thomas Mac Donagh with profiles of each in Irish and English. There are also details of the stamps themselves.

From the 1981 General Election in Cavan Monaghan, a sad notice to electorate concerning the passing of Fine Gael candidate Mona Hobans mother. The notice mentions that the candidate “will not be in a position to visit as many areas as possible”.
Hoban, a County Cavan based Councillor polled 1,741 votes.
