The by-election won by Independent Fianna Fail candidate Paddy Keaveney (Father of former Fianna Fail TD Celecia Keaveney) , was caused by the passing of Fianna Fail TD Liam Cunningham. Hugh Conaghan was elected to the Dail in 1977 and served as a TD until 1989. The by election result.
