Keane was first elected to the Council in 1991 and has held a seat since. After the demise of the PDs she joined Fine Gael and canme close to winning a seat in Dublin South West in 2011.

A former President of Trinity Studenst Union, Bacik was first elected to the Seanad in 2007 having stood a number of times previously. She also stood for Labour in Dun Laoghaire in 2011 as well as Dublin Central in 2009 and the 2004 European Elections.
She is well known for her role in various Human Rights Campaigns.

From the 1989 General Election an Ad from the Corrib Anglers and Boatmen against the controversial Rod Licence Legislation introduced by Fianna Fail. The Ad urges votes for 5 candidates who were against the Legislation.
In that 1989 Election, an Anti Rod Licence candidate, Frank Durcan ran in Mayo West polling a very respectable 5,187 votes.
