Leaflet from Con O’Leary -The National Party -1997 General Election Cork North Central June 14, 2012


From the 1997 General Election a leaflet from National Party candidate Con O’Leary running in Cork North Central. O’Leary polled 1,114 votes.
He had been elected to the City Council in 1991 and was returned again in 1999. The National Party were a ‘Catholic’ party set up on the back of the success of Nora Bennis in the 1994 European Elections where she polled over 5% of the vote.

Leaflet from Seán Martin (Brother of Micheál Martin)- Fianna Fail -2004 Local Elections -Cork South Central June 12, 2012


From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet from Fianna Fail candidate Sean Martin who was running in the Cork South Central Ward for a seat on Cork City Council. Martin was elected polling 1,191 votes.
Originally co-opted to the council in 1997 to replace his brother, and now Fianna Fail leader, Micheál Martin, Seán Martin was reelected in 1999, 2004 and 2009. He was Lord Mayor of Cork for 2004-2005.

From the 1981 General Election, a historic election for Sinn Fein The Workers’ Party as Joe Sherlock became their first TD (since the split). Sherlock was first elected to Cork County Council in 1974.

He is the father of current Labour TD Sean Sherlock

 

Leaflet from Kathleen Lynch -Democratic Left- 1992 General Election Cork South Central September 4, 2011


From the 1992 General Election a leaflet from Kathleen Lynch of the Democratic Left running in Cork South Central. Lynch, now a Junior Minister with the Labour Party, was one of the group that split from The Workers Party to form Democratic Left.
In this election she polled 2,539 and failed to win a seat. She did however win a seat in the 1994 Cork North Central by Election. That by-election and Eric Byrnes victory in Dublin South Central, allowed the formation of the Rainbow coalition.

In the leaflet, amongst other things, we have a great picture of the candidate with Michael Martin, a mention of his Father , Noel O’Flynns retirement at the behest of Michael Martin as well as Kenneth O’Flynns experience in business.

He has “With the Approval and Goodwill of Micheal Martin TD” on his leaflet, this despite not being on the list of 10 Fianna Fail candidates that Michael Martin is “asking electors to give their highest vote to in the upcoming election. .

“Warning Voter Beware” Leaflet from Chris O’Leary -Sinn Fein Cork South Central April 9, 2011


From the 2011 General Election campaign a leaflet attacking Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour from Sinn Fein candidate in Cork South Central Chris O’Leary. Former Green Party Councillor O’Leary polled 5,250 votes and narrowly missed out on winning the last seat.
