1954 General Election Leaflet for Patrick Crotty, Joseph Hughes and Thomas Fielding -Fine Gael – Carlow Kilkenny December 12, 2014


From the 1954 General Election a leaflet showing the price rises under Fianna Fail since the Inter Party Government left office in 1951. Two of the three Fine Gael candidates in Carlow Kilkenny were elected. Patrick Crotty and Joseph Hughes. Thomas Fielding failed to win a seat. Result here

“The man with the Top Hat is Patrick Murphy and his donkey named Pansey.
The photo is from the 1943 General election for Dublin County constituency and the Tunney was Jim or James Tunney (elected to the Dáíl in 1943 & lost his seat in 1944 it was the only occasion he was elected to the Dáil, was also in Seanad & Cllr.) father of Jim Tunney who later became Lord Mayor of Dublin & FF TD for Dublin North West . His Grandson also Jim is an optician in Finglas. Liam Cosgrave Snr & Henry Dockrell were elected for FG in that election & Sean Brady & Patrick J Fogarty for FF.

From the 1943 General Election a leaflet from Joseph Cooney and Patrick McMahon who were running for Clann na Talmhan in the Meath Westmeath constituency. Cooney polled 3,284 votes and Patrick McMahon polled 1,351 votes and neither were elected.

Vote Sean MacEoin -Fine Gael – 1959 Presidential Election October 16, 2014


From the 1959 Presidential Election an ad for Fine Gael candidate General Sean MacEoin. MacEoin polled 417,536 votes in a contest won by Fianna Fails Eamon DeValera.
A veteran of the War of Independence, the Longford native was first elected to the Dail in 1929.

Leaflet from Sean O’Moore , Frank Robbins -National Labour Party -1948 General Election- Dublin North East September 13, 2014


From the 1948 General Election a leaflet from Sean O’Moore and Frank Robbins who were running for the National Labour Party in Dublin North East. Both candidates were veterans of 1916. Sean O’Moore polled 440 votes and Frank Robbins polled 476 votes. Neither were elected.

Eamon De Valera died on the 29th of August 1975, here we have a piece written on De Valera by Sean McEntee. It is from the Winter 1975 edition of “Iris Fianna Fail” the Fianna Fail Party Journal.  It is a lovely bit of history and I have also included the “De Valera Pictures” part of the paper.

Leaflet from Pat Carroll, Griff Cashman, Pat Lacey , Jimmy Somers- Labour Party -1974 Local Elections -Cabra Arran Quay August 11, 2014


From the 1974 Local Elections a Leaflet from Pat Carroll (husband of Joan Burton), Griff Cashman, Pat Lacey and Jimmy Somers who were running for The Labour Party in Area Number 4 Cabra / Arran Quay for a seat on Dublin Corporation. Pat Carroll was elected polling 1,109 votes. The other candidates were unsuccessful Jimmy Somers polled 1,268, Griff Cashman 554 and Pat Lacey 422 votes.
The leaflet contains some interesting policies on Housing for The City.

From Fianna Fail 1959 Referendum on Change in Voting System – “The Straight Vote Some Questions and Answers” August 7, 2014


From the 1959 Referendum on changing the voting system an eight page document from Fianna Fail outlining the reasons whu they wanted the electoral system changed and answering various questions on the issue. Its a very interesting read as it fails to really address the reason why the proposal was defeated, ie we would have had majority Fianna Fail Governments for an awful long time.
