Something non political , but something that may be of interest. I found this wonderful article at home in a 1971 issue of ‘This Week’ magazine. Its about Charlie Chaplin and his family holidaying in Waterville County Kerry at Easter 1971.
There’s an RTE Radio Documentary ‘Kerry and the Tramp’
In the small village of Waterville County Kerry there stands a statue of the silver screen legend Charlie Chaplin. It’s presence pays homage to a cinema superstar who made Waterville his regular holiday home in the 60’s and 70’s. This documentary tells the story of how the Little Tramp ended up in love with this Kerry retreat.

A number of ads for events to do with Eoin O’Duffys National Corporate Party. The National Corporate Party split from Fine Gael when Eoin O’Duffy ‘resigned’ as leader of Fine Gael and also the party. They were very right wing, virulently anti communist and had a military wing ‘The Greenshirts’. It lasted from 1935 to 1937 .
As far as I’m aware they never contested an election.

From the 1932 General Election an ad attacking Fianna Fail from Cumann na nGaedhael. Lots of scaremongering. Were Fianna Fail to get in “It would not need your vote to keep it in power. The Gun Bullies would Do that”. Theres more along those lines as well as The “Bankruptcy of Thousands of Farmers and Indian Meal Porridge all year”

From the 1979 European Elections a leaflet from Independent candidate T J Maher who was running in Munster. A former president of the IFA, by 1979 he was Presient of the Irish Co-Operative Organisation Society. He topped the poll in these 1979 elections being elected on the first count. He was returned again in 1984 and 1989.

The leaflet give details of how the GAA Central Council had issued a directive that no support by any part of the GAA should be given to the H-Block Campaign as it was ‘Party Political’ . The GAA had previously supported the Hunger Strikers five demands.

From 1959 “One Nation” a pamphlet issued by Fianna Fail of a speech delivered by An Taoiseach, Mr. Sean Lemass, T.D., at a meeting of the Oxford Union Society on October 15th 1959.
Its is in these pages that the famous Lemass quote comes from.
“It is, indeed, the simple truth that Ireland is one nation, in its history, in its geography and in its people, entitled to have its essential unity expressed in its political institutions.”

The UK Unionists and The DUP were part of The ‘United Unionists..people with a heart for Ulster” that opposed the Agreement.
