He had intended contesting the Fianna Fail Dublin Central selection convention until a directive from Fianna Fail to select only a female candidate meant he couldn’t contest the convention.

From The “Iris Fianna Fail ” Summer 1975 edition, the then Vice President of Fianna Fail Tomás Ó Maoláin gives his recollections of the first Fianna Fail Ard Fheis. It was held in the Rotunda Building on November the 24th 1926. It’s a wonderful account of the event. Interesting too to see how many people with links to the Easter Rising of ten years earlier were on the Partys National Executive.
