A 2011 General Election Leaflet from then Independent Eddie Fitzpatrick who joined Fianna Fail recently. The Portarlington based, former PD councillor left the PDs after the 2007 General Election and held his council seat in 2009.
In the 2011 General Election he polled a respectable 2554 votes. He had been voting with Fianna Fail on the council prior to joining them.

“Fine Gael is committed to the cause of Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan and the need for keeping the services there until the
new Regional Hospital is built.
Damien English TD, Dr James Reilly TD & all local Fine Gael public representatives attended the monster public rally on October
30th in Navan to show our support for the cross community, cross party ‘Save Our Hospital’ campaign.
The Fine Gael health spokesperson spoke about the need for the hospital to remain open. He is a GP in North County Dublin and
is aware that there is not enough capacity at other hospitals in the North East and in Dublin to take Navan’s patients.”

Connaughton, running the Roscommon South Leitrim constituency polled 4070 votes and failed to win a seat.

From the 2011 General Election a letter from the then Fine Gael Health spokesperson (and now Minister of Health) Dr James Reilly to the “People of Roscommon” with assurances over Roscommon Hospital.
The issue of Roscommon Hospital caused Fine Gael TD Denis Naughten to vote against the government and will more than likely to lose the Fine Gael whip.

Fine Gael weren’t the only ones with a ‘Five Point Plan’ in the 2011 General Election. Independent candidate Michael Ryan who was running in Dublin Mid West had a “5 Point Plan for a New Ireland”. Amongst the items were
“The low paid couldn’t afford the Celtic Tiger Party so why should they pay for it….” and “TDs to serve 3 months at minimum wage”
Ryan polled 375 votes.

In the leaflet amongst other things he mentions is that he “is running for the fourth time for Dail Eireann”. In 1997 he ran for ‘The National Party‘ , in 2002 he ran for the Christian Solidarity Party , in 2007 he ran as an Independent.
In this 2011 election he polled 222 votes. (his record at electionsireland.org)

Michael Kilcoyne -Independent -Mayo – 2011 General Election
From the 2011 General Election a leaflet from Independent candidate Michael Kilcoyne who was running in Mayo. Kilcoyne was tipped by many to have an outside chance of a seat. In the end he polled a respectable 3,996 votes and missed out on the final seat.
