Six months ago the idea of an exhibition of some of my collection at The National Print Museum was raised …… …. Tonight after much hard work by many the exhibition is being launched by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
It will be a far cry from the 18th of February 1982 when I collected my first leaflets outside the polling station as my parents voted. I started this site to try and show off the material I’ve gathered over the years. Since then the network of people who keep leaflets for me has grown. I started to get more material in, some in the post, some people sending scans of old and new leaflets. I pride myself on posting all ranges of Irish Political Ephemera from both the past and the present and the site being neutral politically.
It has been great fun and hard work selecting what to put in the exhibition. Trying to get a balance between parties, people, geography, gender and the issues of the time. Though I say so myself the exhibition looks spectacular. It is co curated by myself and Dr Ciarán Swan and the exhibition also has items from the CLR Left Archive .
I know those with any interest whatsoever in politics and indeed nostalgia will enjoy it.
More details on the exhibition here.
Some pictures I took over the course of the weekend as we set the exhibition up… There are more photos here
