Independent Mattie McGraths Election Newsletter -2011 General Election Tipperary South January 26, 2011

First off many thanks to the sender who braved it to enter Matties ‘information centre’ to get the pics.
Mattie has left the green of Fianna Fail and gone the Blue and Gold of Tipp, the same colours used by Michael Lowry leaflets.
Mattie wants to save Clonmel hospital, has himself pictured with Brian Lenihan, Marie Hoctor and others.
Hopefully further Mattie stuff coming this way over the course of the campaign.
No word yet if Mattie has a campaign song to match his 2007 opus.

“The “Stroke” For Galway West” Vote 1 Michael Fahy -Independent FF -1987 General Election January 9, 2011

From the 1987 General Election an Ad for Independent Fianna Fail candidate Michael ‘Stroke’ Fahy.
The Slogan of “The “Stroke” For Galway West” is fairly eye catching.
I gather he failed to get a party nomination and ran as an Independent Fianna Fail candidate.
He later rejoined the party. He is perhaps most widely known for his Misappropriation conviction for which he served time in jail.
In the 1987 Election he polled 3,139 votes and missed out on a seat. He is still a Councillor having been reelected in 2009.
From the Galway Advertiser.

Tom Cribbin – ‘Independant’ -Edenderry -2009 LE November 4, 2010

I love this 2009 leaflet from ‘Independant’ Tom Cribbin running for Edenderry Town Council and Offaly County Council. I’m puzzled if the spelling mistake is deliberate or not.
Cribbin, a long standing Councillor resigned from Fianna Fail in protest at the party’s selection procedure for local election candidates prior to the 2009 Local Elections. He ran as an Independent.
He failed to win a seat on Offaly County Council and I’m unsure if he won a seat or not on Edenderry Town Council.

‘Sugar Daddy is Back!’ – from 2007 -Jackie Healy Raes acceptance speech in Kenmare. August 24, 2010

I had forgotten about this, having been kept sweet by Fianna Fail and The PDs for 5 years with a deal, Jackie Healy Rae is introduced by the MC with the words ‘Sugar Daddy is Back!’ to which the crowd responds to with chants of    ‘Siucra, Siucra, Siucra…..’

Byrne resigned from Fianna Fail claiming that the cutbacks in the Budget showed Fianna Fail had “lost touch with ordinary people and have failed to listen to their concerns”.
Cutbacks in spending programmes announced in the budget have resulted in pain and distress being inflicted on the elderly and less well off in our society,”
Byrne polled well with 1,202 votes but failed to get in.

From the 2009 Local Elections in Kerry. Poll topper in Killorglin LEA, Michael Healy-Rae, son of the sitting TD Jackie Healy-Rae.
‘I earnestly ask for your NO 1 VOTE Please -or you next highest preference’ writes Michael.
The thing that also strikes me about the leaflet is that when reading it I can hear Michael Healy-Raes voice saying most of the text.
I also see that Michael is a member of the HSE.

From the 2007 General Election, Independent Councillor Mary Roche in Waterford. A former Fianna Fail councillor, Mary Roche She resigned from FF in 2003 due to their failure to deliver on the 2002 Election promise regarding radiotherapy for Waterford.
