Leaflet from Máire Kirrane – The National Party (Catholic Democrats) -1997 General Election -Dublin South East July 31, 2014
From the 1997 General Election a leaflet from Máire Kirrane who was running for The National Party which had been founded by Nora Bennis in the wake of her run in the 1994 European Elections. They are now called The Catholic Democrats and Theresa Heaney ran for them in the 2014 European Elections
Máire Kirrane polled 1,169 votes and missed out on a seat.

Drawings of Invention Designs from Noel Bennett – Independent – Ballyfermot Drimnagh -2014 Local Elections July 21, 2014
A very unusual piece of Election Ephemera here…. These designs along with a card and a handwritten note “Running in Local Election on Job Creation” were dropped in doors by Independent Noel Bennett who was running in Ballyfermot Drimnagh for a seat on Dublin City Council. He polled 102 votes.
Many thanks to the person who rescued this fairly unique Election Ephemera from a friends fireplace.

Leaflet from Peigin Doyle – Official Sinn Fein – Dublin South Central -1973 General Election
From the 1973 General Election a leaflet from Peigin Doyle who was running for Official Sinn Fein in Dublin South Central. She polled 1521 votes and missed out on a seat. She also stood in the 1974 Local Elections in Pembroke/Rathmines polling 962 votes and also missing out on a seat.
I’m told Charlie Bird was her Election Agent.

Despite the leaflet McDowell lost his seat with John Gormley of The Green Party winning a seat instead. As the Greens were making progress in the polls, in elections between 1997 and 2007 all parties tried to show off their environmental credentials.
