A poster for the launch of Senator Terry Leydens Replica Dail Bar and Seanad Lounge in Castlecoote County Roscommon, which is being held on the 6th of September 2013 with guest speaker Mary O’Rourke. Its a wonder nobody has done it before!


Includes a young Willie O’Dea and Ryan Tubridys father -booklet for the ‘Committee of 15’ election from the 1980 Fianna Fail Ard Fheis April 2, 2012

Including a young Willie O’Dea and Ryan Tubridys father Dr. Patrick Tubridy a booklet for the Committee of Fifteen elections from the 1980 Fianna Fail Ard Fheis. Each candidate has a picture and profile.
Theres lots of interesting things to notice such as the lack of Cork candidates following the ousting of Jack Lynch. Don Lydon and Patrick Tubridy worked together in John of Gods. The young Mary O’Rourke, that Darragh O’Reilly later stood for the Christian Solidarity party …..

From the 2011 General Election aleaflet from Fianna Fail candidate Mary O’Rourke who was running in Longford Westmeath. The long serving TD and Senator failed to hold on to the seat she regained in 2007.



1987 leaflet from Mary O’Rourke, Albert Reynolds, Henry Abbott- Fianna Fail -Longford Westmeath June 14, 2011

Some big names here in this 1987 election leaflet for Mary O’Rourke, Albert Reynolds and Henry Abbott. Reynolds a former Taoiseach, O’Rourke a former minister and leader of The Seanad, whilst Abbott became a high court judge. In this 1987 General Election, all three were elected in the four seat Longford Westmeath. Abbott lost his seat in 1989.

Another member of the judiciary with a political past, Judge Henry Abbott.
He had one term in the Dail in 1987 (where the specimen ballot paper below is from) before losing his seat in 1989.
Note Helena McAuliffe Ennis has her occupation as ‘senator and housewife’.
She was also the only Labour member of the Oireachtas to join the PD’s in the months after their formation.
