‘ahead…. with Hederman’ -Carmencita Hederman- Independent 1985 Local Elections Pembroke. March 5, 2010

From the 1985 local Elections in the Pembroke Ward, Independent Community Candidate Carmencita Hederman. The picture is of her going over the ‘new’ East Link bridge.
Carmencita Hederman was first elected to the council in 1974 and served until 1999. She was Lord Mayor of Dublin from 1987–88 during the Dublin Millennium celebrations. In 1989 she was elected to the Seanad for the University of Dublin Seat and served one term.
The Leaflet below gives an outline of her activities and career.
The picture on the bottom of the leaflet is of a building at the bottom of Eglington road (opposite Donnybrook Rugby ground). There was controversy when the building was built and given planning permission. This was then added to by the fact that once built the building could not find a tenant for a long period of time.
Her daughter Wendy Hederman was elected to the council for the Progressive Democrats in 2004.

Chris Andrews -Fianna Fail -1999 Local Elections Pembroke March 4, 2010

From the 1999 local elections, Fianna Fail candidate Chris Andrews running in the Pembroke Ward. Chris Andrews was elected, his running mate Liz Donnelly lost out.
He lost his seat in 2004, before being co-opted in 2006 and then winning a Dail seat in Dublin South East in 2007.
Chris Andrews is son of Niall Andrews, grandson of Todd Andrews, nephew of David Andrews and of course a cousin of amongst others Dun Laoghaire TD Barry Andrews and RTEs Ryan Tubridy.

Again for a Dublin South East based candidate the background for the photo is the Pidgeon house. Amongst the issues covered here are the needs for Taxi deregulation and more recycling and better waste management.

Enid O’Dowd -Green Alliance -Pembroke 1985 Local Elections February 24, 2010

From the 1985 local elections, the Green Party candidate for the Pembroke Ward, Enid O’Dowd.
Enid O’Dowd polled well but with the likes of well established community activist Carmencita Hederman on the ballot paper it was unlikely she would get in. The Green Party won a seat in Pembroke in the 1991 local Elections through Claire Wheeler.
More recently Enid O’Dowd has been doing some great work on Oireachtas expenses with a number of articles in the Irish Times and an appearance on Liveline.

Tom Crilly, Angie Murphy -Workers Party -1991 Local Elections Pembroke February 2, 2010

The Workers Party candidates Tom Crilly and Angie Murphy from the 1991 local elections in Pembroke Ward for Dublin City Council. Neither were elected.
The Johnston Mooney and O’Brien site and The Irish Sweepstakes site in Ballsbridge are amongst the developments mentioned here. Both had their share of controversy.
The infestation of rats in Herbert Park may have been to do with the bakery closing. There were always lots of fat rats on the bank of the Dodder by the bakery when it was in business.
Janet Waddock and Damien Waddock are also mentioned.

John Burns- Natural Law Party -1999 European and Local Elections January 22, 2010

John Burns of the Natural Law Party from the 1999 European Elections in Dublin and 1999 Local Elections in Pembroke. He polled poorly in both.
His call for NATO bombers to be replaced with 7000 Yogic flyers did not capture the voters hearts. (John Burns at electionsIreland.org)
The Natural Law Party stopped fielding candidates in Ireland around 2000.

William Coughlan -Pembroke LEA 1985 September 25, 2009

This is one of the oddest looking leaflets I have. Not too many candidates have drawings of themselves on their leaflets. Coughlan polled 87 votes.
