… what you maybe meant to keep…

Some pics from the Young Fine Gael pages of the 1999 Fine Gael Ard Fheis Booklet June 25, 2013

From the 1999 Booklet for the Fine Gael Ard Fheis, the photos from the Young fine Gael pages. Amongst others pictured is a young Leo Varadkar. Theres also a group in fancy dress with Nora Owen ‘Launching their passion for Europe Campaign’ for the Amsterdam Treaty .(The leaflets caused some controversy). Would love to know if there were any future TDs lurking in that fancy dress picture.
I’ve also included a picture related to the ‘Touts Out’ campaign mentioned in the text under the Leo Picture.

Nora Owen, Cathal Boland -Fine Gael -Dublin North 2002 GE January 3, 2010

It was here in the 2002 General Election that one of the Flaws of the electronic voting system was made apparent.
The result was just announced by the returning officer with little or no indication to the candidates as to their success. On live TV Nora Owen lost her seat without any prior indication that she had done so. It was deemed as cruel and the proposed system was changed to give updates after each count rather than just deliver the end result.
The Fact that Nora Owen was a Minister added to the drama.

The Leaflets below also show how Fine Gael were not exactly spendthrift given the promises listed.
