It is the first election for the Newport based Lisa Chambers (no relation of former Councillor and Senator Frank Chambers). Dara Calleary , who is currently a Junior Minister, will be hoping to hold on to his seat. Its a highly competitive constituency with Fine Gael hoping to win four of the Five seats and Labour hoping to make a breakthrough with their candidate Jerry Cowley.

One item was her support for the Construction sector. “The current market presents an opportunity ..for Local Authorities.. to negotiate deals to buy affordable houses..”
She would have had The State (County Councils) buy a raft of houses in 2008…. that would look well now.

From the 2007 General election in Mayo, Fianna Fail candidate Frank Chambers. In a tight contest it was always going to be hard for Chambers to win a seat, especially with Beverly Cooper-Flynn running as an Independent.
Of the 3 Fianna Fail candidates only Dara Callery was elected.
