From the 1973 Monaghan by-election a statement from CPI-ML candidate David Vipond.

“End class exploitation” presumably by “fighting for better wages and living standards”. Interesting choice of words there, especially for a communist, and not any old communist but a Marxist-Leninist communist to boot. Marxism clearly explains that the wages system is THE mechanism by which class exploitation perpetuates itself. Better wages can at most only ameliorate class exploitation. It can never end it. That can only end with the end of the wages system itself. In any case, experience show that the ‘amelioration’ achieved through ‘better wages’ is invariably temporary and contingent upon other factors, such as prices for basic goods and living standards generally. Presumably this guy wasn’t elected. Was he ever serious?
