From the 1981 General Election a leaflet from Sinn Fein The Workers’ Party candidate Paddy Gallagher who was running in Waterford. Gallagher, who had been elected to Waterford Corporation in 1974, polled 3,463 votes in this 1981 General Election and failed to win a seat. The drop in vote from 1977 could be in part explained by the presence of H-Block candidate Kevin Lynch on the ballot paper.
Gallagher was elected to the Dail in February 1982 , however he lost his seat in the November 1982 General Election.
