From the 2011 General election campaign a leaflet from Independent candidate James Fanning running in Laois Offaly. Fanning a businessman from Birr is one of a host of candidates asking…
“WHY ARE WE BAILING OUT THE BANKS WHEN THE MONEY COULD BE PUT INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY?”

many thanks to the sender.

You pose a question but you don’t offer an answer! Your question is:
“Why are we bailing out the banks…?” – answer: BECAUSE THE BANKS OWN THE WORLD INCLUDING OUR PUNY GOVERNMENT. If we are to tell the banks to feck off we’ll need to radically alter the country, ie to live within our means whereby we never again need to borrow money abroad. Our exports would have to exceed our imports and our public service would have to be paid entirely out of domestic revenue (taxes etc.). I’d be all for that but it would mean a level of frugality that 80% of Irish people wouldn’t accept. And so, we have to put up and shut up or “We ‘got to get ourselves back to the garden” (as per the Woodstock song)…
