I had to prepare the upstairs meeting room at the queen’s hotel in Ennis for his 1989 campaign. the staff were sitting around and one of the porters said that Father Ryan was upstairs in the small meeting room with his self-help group. Follow lurid jokes about Father Ryan’s self-help. Everyone was falling around laughing. Nobody took his campaign seriously, everyone knew what he was.
