It was very surprising how close the result was. I love these posters. One of the reasons for the Industrial Schools was to hide the children of broken marriages – many many children were consigned to those hellholes because of marital breakdown and Catholic Ireland didn’t recognise that marriages can end.
Yes it was a strange time, although the 1995 campaign wasn’t as vicious as the 1986 one.
This is quite interesting as it gives the views of the public and politicians from the time
