From the 1991 Local Elections in the Buncrana LEA, Fine Gael candidates Seamus Gill , Mary McGroarty and Bernard McGuinness. Their concerns echo many of the concerns of today.
Bernard McGuinness stood in Donegal North East in 1981, 1992 and 2002 for Fine Gael but without winning a seat.

Little bit of local colour for ya:

I used to be on Donegal Youth Council, and after meetings we used to get a few sandwiches and the like. After us was a senior Council meeting, also catered, and at one stage Bernard McGuinness, who’d been staring at another girl and me for quite a while, comes over and says, with near menace…

    “Are those your sandwiches?”

    Seriously.

    • Brilliant Paddy…..
      My best sandwich story….
The local Priest called to the house, well mannered as we were, we asked
      “Cup of tea Father?”
      To which he replied…
      “I’ll have a Sandwich”

Haha! I bet priests around that time probably thought the whole world smelled of teabags and fresh butter, such was their access to hospitality!
